Peševová Magdalena, is a contemporary artist born in the city of Prague in 1979. She graduated with a Masters from the the Academy of Fine Arts, focusing on classic painting and new media. She completed a scholarship at Ecole des Beaux Artes in France, and is currently in residence in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

Magdalena is primarily devoted to monumental painting, drawing, interior and
exterior painting, hanging paintings and illustrating, as well as conceptual painting,
such as combination with performance art. Formally, her work is inspired by street art, graffiti, comics, symbolism and surrealism. Conceptually, she pays attention to current Anglo-Saxon and Hispanic music, feminism, postmodern inheritance and gender, as well as political and religious issues.

For the exhibition "Black and White" she works with black and white and the grayscale in between. Investigating contrasts between two opposite
parts of the planet [Europe and Indonesia], the artist tries to reveal differences, to
examine and explain them through personal experience. It is not only displaying,
but a process of understanding: perceiving different cultures, life and
behaviour in both positive and negative ways. In her painting, she also touches on
religious topics, as well as the recent volcano eruption, which strongly affected the
citizens of Yogyakarta, where she currently works.

Black and white, up and downs, angels and demons. Opposites that highlight our similarities:
one planet;
one unit; one humanity.
