"Imagine how an Indonesian child can do his homework with the assistance of an English teacher who is home based in (for example), Birmingham by means of a web-cam. And the other way around, English students can learn the Indonesian language from a teacher at the University in Jakarta".
"Indonesia Act Local Think Global" project empowers communities through education development and new media. This program advocates and stresses the importance of access to information and rights based education. By creating online communities such as forums, websites, digital libraries online class rooms and interactive learning programs, a voice are given to underserved communities.
Unlocking and connecting communities through the digital network not only changes lives it both enhance mutual understanding by means of live stream recordings that enable people to have a glimpse of Indonesian daily life routine.
"Indonesia Act local Think Global" elevates education from a local to an interactive global level. It opens spaces to communicate freely and to share information without government restrictions. Moreover it marks the next step in the digital progress, from social forums, to knowledge forums.
Currently Spotlight Centre for New Media is developing software with the product title:"Brain Book", an online "Knowledge Forum" encompasses a wide range of learning tools and enables interactive sharing of knowledge between teachers, mentors and pupils. The software incorporates the qualities of a traditional "school class" integrating all the benefits of new media and the internet.
It also features a comprehensive set of tools such as, an online library, database, real time translation functions, a rehearsal room, web-cam and chatting features to enhance communication and learning.
"Brain Book" is initiated as a pilot project that involves the expertise of visual artists, graphic designers. ICT developers, education specialist, and researchers, "Brain book" will be showcased and trialed in a series of workshops that are planned at various Education institutions in Jakarta.
